Whether you are taking a vacation, heading out on a road-trip, or being shipped away on another business trip, one question always arises; What Do I Pack? What to wear on my trip? Typical worries follow; how many pairs of shoes do I bring, how many outfits will I need, should they be fancy or casual, what is the best way to transport sensitive items, such as toiletries and medicine?
Prior planning can make packing a travel bag just another small step in the traveling process and less of an epic pain.
If you are a frequent traveler you will know that simple attire is the key to a comfortable and pleasant journey. Many transatlantic travelers will agree that there is not much point in dressing too formally when you will be sitting in one seat for seven hours or more.
Those that do make the mistake of dressing up to the nines more often than not come off the other end looking a lot worse than their fellow passengers.
The first thing you need to take into consideration is what you are going to pack to take with you. If you are going to be attending a business meeting as soon as you get off the plane its best to take a pressed shirt with you so that you can change into it once you have arrived at your destination.
If your meeting is scheduled for the next day then put together something smart, casual, and comfortable. Invest in a pair of chinos or smart jeans and some smart moccasins or other shoes.
Try to avoid wearing running trainers, although your feet do swell when you are on a plane, it’s important to remember that you don’t know who you are going to run into and its best to be well presented rather than looking overly casual even if you are traveling.
There are plenty of smart and comfortable shoes that you can wear for your journey. Additionally, even if you are traveling to a hot destination don’t wear shorts, its best to reserve them for when you are planning to go to the beach.
Unless you are someone that cannot fathom the thought of being without your heels, this is a disaster waiting to happen. Imagine yourself running through the airport with your luggage in tow, purse on your arm, ticket in hand, trying to make your flight on time. It was a sprained ankle waiting to happen.
If you are like 90% of the time travel with a crap-load of carry-on baggage, this is an awful situation to be in. Flats or sandals are the way to go (booties could work). If you must wear heels, go with a wedge and possibly a cork wedge. They seem to be the most forgiving for running and comfort.
It can get cold when you are on the plane so take a pullover or sweater with you making sure that it combines with the rest of your outfit and is presentable. Of course, there are little touches that you can look at when you put together your travel outfit.
Chinos or jeans can be combined with a smart French cuff sleeved shirt and a pair of simple and stylish cufflinks. Many people believe that cufflinks are worn with formal wear but they also look great with smart casual outfits and are comfortable to wear.
If you wear themed cufflinks, they can even be a great conversation starter which will certainly help you pass the time whilst you are flying.
Leave your valuables at home. Nothing worse more than breaking your favorite necklace or bracelet. Worse, it could fall off and you never see it again. Much worse, it could be stolen. If it means a lot to you, keep it at home. It will be waiting for you upon your return.
Make sure that you take an extra change of clothes in your carry on just in case you spill coffee on your shirt, tie or suit. Look for neckties that are easy to wash or wipe clean and are not made of a material that easily creases.
There are plenty of products available that will help take creases out of shirts but try to make sure that you pack your clothing carefully to avoid having to do this.
